Yash Dayal to Miss IPL 2026; RCB Face Fast-Bowling Concerns

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be without left-arm pacer Yash Dayal for the entirety of the Indian Premier League 2026, as confirmed by the team’s director of cricket, Mo Bobat. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Bobat revealed that the decision was made after discussions with Dayal, citing personal circumstances. “We spoke earlier today, but decided it’s not in his and the franchise’s best interest for him to join the squad given the personal situation he’s dealing with,” Bobat said, without elaborating further. Despite his absence, Dayal remains contracted with RCB. The pacer has not featured in competitive cricket since the final of the Indian Premier League 2025 in June. His unavailability also comes amid ongoing legal proceedings related to serious allegations. Bobat acknowledged that the franchise had anticipated a possible absence during their auction planning. “The Yash Dayal situation was tricky. We prepared with a worst-case scenario in mind that he might not be available,” he added. RCB’s challenges are compounded by the delayed availability of Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood, who is recovering from a long-standing injury. The franchise is currently coordinating with Cricket Australia and remains hopeful of his early return. In the absence of Dayal and Hazlewood, RCB’s pace attack will rely on experienced Indian swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, alongside uncapped domestic talents Rasikh Salam, Abhinandan Singh, and Mangesh Yadav. Overseas options include New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy, Sri Lanka’s Nuwan Thushara, and West Indies allrounder Romario Shepherd. With key absences early in the season, RCB will need to rely on a mix of experience and emerging talent to navigate what appears to be a challenging start to their IPL 2026 campaign.
