Cricket West Indies (CWI) has denied a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to fast bowler Jayden Seales, preventing his planned stint with Hampshire in the early part of the County Championship season. The move comes as part of a broader strategy to carefully manage the workload of the Caribbean side’s key fast bowlers.
Seales had been signed by Hampshire as a replacement for Michael Neser, but the deal was halted shortly after completion when CWI declined approval for his participation.
CWI’s decision is part of a wider plan that includes fellow fast bowlers Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph. The board emphasized that managing player fitness is critical ahead of a demanding international calendar later this year.
Miles Bascombe, CWI’s Director of Cricket, stated that the board is taking a “proactive and precise” approach to ensure its premier fast bowlers remain fit and effective across formats. “Our fast bowlers are among our most valuable assets, and this season demands the best of them,” he said.
Under the plan, Seales will instead participate in the opening two rounds of the regional West Indies Championship starting next month. Shamar Joseph will join from the second round but will undergo structured training sessions beforehand as part of a carefully monitored workload program.
Meanwhile, Alzarri Joseph—who has been sidelined since September due to a back injury—has been granted clearance to play in the Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators. His progress will be closely tracked throughout the tournament and in preparation for upcoming international assignments.
The workload management strategy comes ahead of a packed schedule for West Indies, which includes home series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Pakistan. The team will then compete in the Caribbean Premier League before embarking on overseas tours to India and Bangladesh.
CWI noted that the intense run of fixtures across formats will place significant physical demands on its fast-bowling unit, making player management a top priority throughout the season.
