South Africa batter Anneke Bosch has called on her team to avoid overthinking and stick to the basics as they prepare for the third ODI against New Zealand women’s cricket team on Saturday.
Following a closely contested series, Bosch emphasized the importance of maintaining clarity and composure in what will be a crucial match, with both a series victory and valuable points in the ICC Women’s Championship at stake.
“Just keeping things simple… not trying to overcomplicate it or overthink it, and taking our chances,” Bosch said ahead of the game. “A series win is up for grabs, and we really want that.”
Tightly Fought Series
The series between South Africa women’s cricket team and New Zealand has been fiercely competitive. South Africa clinched the first ODI in dramatic fashion, chasing down 268 on the final ball with two wickets in hand.
The second ODI proved equally thrilling, with New Zealand edging a two-wicket win with just two balls remaining. The match featured a record-breaking chase in women’s ODIs, powered by a stunning unbeaten 179 from Amelia Kerr, which helped overhaul South Africa’s imposing total of 346.
Bosch Shines on Return
The second ODI also marked Bosch’s return to the format since the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. She made an immediate impact, scoring a career-best 91 off 90 balls.
Reflecting on her comeback, Bosch expressed gratitude for the opportunity and highlighted the effort she put in during her time away from the international setup.
“It’s good to be back… when you get chances, you want to make the best of them,” she said. “I spent time playing domestic cricket, working hard, and improving both my game and mindset.”
Focus on Execution
Bosch also pointed to fielding lapses as an area South Africa must address heading into the decider. She stressed that capitalizing on key moments and sticking to game plans will be critical against a confident New Zealand side.
With momentum swinging both ways in the series, the final ODI promises another high-intensity contest as South Africa aim to finish strong and secure a vital series win.
