Cricket News, Fakhar Zaman, Cricket Updates
Fakhar Zaman is facing a potential suspension of one to two matches after being charged with ball-tampering during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings on Sunday.
According to a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board, Fakhar has been booked under a Level III offence, which carries a minimum penalty of a one-match ban and can extend to two matches for a first violation within a PSL season. Match referee Roshan Mahanama is set to conduct a hearing within the next two days, where Fakhar is expected to contest the charge.
Incident During Crucial Final Over
The controversy unfolded at the start of the final over of Karachi Kings’ run chase. On-field umpire Faisal Afridi halted play to inspect the ball after it had been passed between Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman. Following a prolonged discussion with fellow umpire Sharfuddoula, the officials deemed the ball to have been tampered with and replaced it.
As per PSL playing conditions, Karachi Kings were awarded five penalty runs. Batters Khushdil Shah and Azam Khan were also given the option to choose a replacement ball from a selection of six.
Impact on Match Outcome
The penalty proved decisive. The Kings’ target was reduced from 14 runs off the final over to just nine, dramatically easing the chase. Abbas Afridi then sealed the victory in just two deliveries, striking a four and a six off Haris Rauf.
Interestingly, Lahore captain Shaheen Shah Afridi later indicated uncertainty regarding the penalty, stating during the post-match presentation that the team would await clarification from the umpires.
Additional Disciplinary Action
In a separate incident, Hasan Ali of Karachi Kings was fined 10% of his match fee for an aggressive celebration following the dismissal of Haseebullah Khan. The act was classified as a Level I offence under Article 2.5 of the PSL Code of Conduct, which addresses inappropriate or provocative behavior on the field.
What’s Next
The upcoming hearing will determine Fakhar Zaman’s fate, with the possibility of a short suspension looming. The decision could have a significant impact on Lahore Qalandars as the PSL 2026 season progresses.
