Punjab Kings continued their strong run at Chepauk after captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings in their latest IPL clash.
The decision aligns with recent success for PBKS at the venue, where they have won their last three encounters against CSK. Backed by favorable conditions expected to assist batting later in the match, Punjab named an unchanged playing XI, with Priyansh Arya likely to feature as an impact substitute.
CSK, on the other hand, handed a debut to 20-year-old left-arm spin-bowling allrounder Prashant Veer, one of their high-profile auction picks. He joins fellow recruit Kartik Sharma in the starting lineup. To accommodate Veer, Matthew Short was left out, and given CSK are batting first, his involvement in the match appears unlikely.
CSK’s starting XI includes only two overseas players, leaving room for either Jamie Overton or Rahul Chahar to be introduced as an impact substitute depending on match conditions.
The Chennai side continues to miss key players, with MS Dhoni sidelined due to a calf injury, while Dewald Brevis remains unavailable with a side strain, despite both being seen at training ahead of the match.
CSK are led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who headlines a lineup featuring Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Noor Ahmad among others.
Punjab’s lineup includes a strong core of domestic and international players such as Prabhsimran Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, and Arshdeep Singh, with Yuzvendra Chahal leading the spin attack.
With PBKS looking to extend their dominance at Chepauk and CSK banking on fresh talent like Prashant Veer, the contest promises to be an intriguing battle early in the IPL season.
